DX:IW on PS2? Monday, December 29, 2003, 03:16 | Jonas Wæver | Comments Unless I missed something, the information on this page could point in the direction of Invisible War on the PlayStation 2. I may of course just have misunderstood something, or maybe GameSpy did. Thanks goes to Paul a.k.a. Walton Simons for the discovery. |
TNM Updated Sunday, December 14, 2003, 07:11 | Jonas Wæver | Comments Yes, finally the website of The Nameless Mod has been updated with a bunch of info about the current status of the modification. An early alpha is underway, a few new members have been added to the team, and a lot of work is generally being done, especially in the previously quite neglected coding department. To top it all off, a new Picture of the "Week" has been uploaded. It is yet another screenshot from the mysterious DXI-ruins, which have changed radically since the last update. |
Alex Brandon Interview Sunday, December 14, 2003, 07:02 | Jonas Wæver | Comments Music4Games has conducted an interview with Alex Brandon - the audio director for DX: Invisible War - about what he does and how he does it. I would have posted a snippet, but they've disabled copying from their site, so you'll just have to go read it for yourself. Can't be bothered typing it in manually ;) |
Easter Egg Ending Saturday, December 13, 2003, 16:39 | Jonas Wæver | Comments Nekogami has submitted the information on how to trigger a secret ending for Invisible War. Since it's somewhat spoilerish, I'm not going to post it on the front page, but if you want to know how to activate this easter egg, click on the comment link for this post, or go here or here. It's all in there. |
Invisible War Patch Released! Friday, December 12, 2003, 19:49 | Trestkon | Comments Acting quickly to correct many of the glaring functional issues with Invisible War, Ion Storm has released an Invisible War Version 1.1 Patch that takes care of the following issues: - Defaulted Bloom to off when starting a new game. - Adjusted mouse movement to eliminate feeling of "lagginess". - Adjusted the HUD so that it is pushed toward the edges of the screen. - Added option for turning all shadows off. Right-clicking will now swap items in the inventory and toolbelt screen. . Added buttons for installing weapon mods and biomods. . (F10/F12) - Non-hostile AI's will now go hostile much sooner if shot. - Eliminated monitor resyncing during level transition and savegame loads. - Increased the headshot damage multiplier for the pistol. - Increased the damage of the stun prod. Kudos to Ion Storm for responding so quickly to the very loud suggestions from fans! |
DX:IW Walkthrough Started Wednesday, December 10, 2003, 05:23 | Jonas Wæver | Comments Thanks to Absynthe for the heads up that the first part of his DX:IW walkthrough has been posted at Denton's Databank. I haven't looked at it myself (as I'm European and wouldn't want to spoil it for myself). So far, Tarsus Academy and Upper Seattle has been posted, and lower Seattle is already written and will be posted soon. So... this is the place to go if you need help. |
New DX:IW Trailer Tuesday, December 9, 2003, 09:07 | Trestkon | Comments It would seem that a new trailer has been posted on the official Invisible War website. It features slightly more stealth play than the prvious trailer, as well as including a snippet of a conversation with a Gray! Thanks to Silent Watcher for the info. |
Average DX:IW Rating Friday, December 5, 2003, 16:04 | Jonas Wæver | Comments According to Game Rankings, who base their rankings on the average rating from several other sites, one of the most popular games with reviewers right now is Deus Ex: Invisible War. Apparently, the game has been reviewed by the following 8 websites and magazines: 1UP, ActionTrip, Games Domain, GamePro, GameSpot, GameSpy, IGN and Stuff Gamer, and the average ratio from all 6 reviews is 86%. So far, so good. Read more details here. |
QA testers needed at ION Friday, December 5, 2003, 16:03 | Despot | Comments I haven't the slightest idea what they're needed for, but ION Storm is hiring QA testers. Both full and part-time temporary positions are open, but unfortunately no remote contract work is available. |
IW in the GotY awards Friday, December 5, 2003, 15:07 | Despot | Comments GameSpy wants your vote on the best game of 2003, and naturally Deus Ex: Invisible War is on the list. Of course we all know what game will win...*wink* |
More IGN Developer diaries Friday, December 5, 2003, 12:39 | Despot | Un-daunted by merging with GameSpy, IGN has a post-mortem writeup in which Chris Carollo contributes a a brief over-view of the development process, and Warren Spector talks about the (rather volatile) console vs. PC issue. I can't help but think the anti-console attitude is somewhat analogous to racism or partisan politics...I don't want to run afoul of Godwin's Law, though, so I'll pipe down. |
Invisible War Review Friday, December 5, 2003, 07:08 | Trestkon | Comments A rather scathing review of Invisible War has been posted over at 1UP.com. But despite all of the reviews gripes, it still manages a 7/10, so something must be right:) Thanks to IconoclastDX for the heads up! |
DX:IW Released Wednesday, December 3, 2003, 20:26 | Trestkon | Comments Deus Ex: Invisible War, has been unleashed on the public! Head out to your local electonic games distributor and demand a copy, fork over some money if need be. Proceed to "Wage war as you choose". Dancing in the streets is permitted, although frowned upon. |
Denton's DataBank Revamped Tuesday, December 2, 2003, 19:04 | Trestkon | Absynthe has informed us that his website, Denton's Databank has been reworked for the release of Deus Ex: Invisible War. Keep your eyes open for content, unfortunatly, Absynthe didn't get an advance copy of IW from Eidos and has to buy the game like the rest of us. Must have been lost in the mail. The section of the site pertaining to the orginal Deus Ex has been archived for all those folks who need a helping hand. |
GameSpot DX:IW Review Tuesday, December 2, 2003, 09:02 | Jonas Wæver | Comments GameSpot has also posted their review of Invisible War, in which they give the game a rating of 8 out of 10 (which translates into "great"). They give the game 8 for graphics, sound and value but only 7 for gameplay. However, it recieves a tilt of 9, which is a balancing score which basically represents how fun the game is. Thanks goes to the guys at DeusExGaming, who noticed it first. |
ActionTrip Reviews DX:IW Tuesday, December 2, 2003, 08:40 | Jonas Wæver | Comments ActionTrip has been rather quick about it, and already released their review of Deus Ex: Invisible War. The review is rather lengthy, and overall very positive. The game gets a solid score of 85 out of 100 points, and to sum it up, here are the cons and pros from the end of the review: Highs: Immersive open-ended gameplay, exploration, use of physics, gripping story, black market Biomods. Lows: Steep hardware requirements, made to look and play better on the Xbox, balancing issues and other minor drawbacks. |
More RPGVault 'views Monday, December 1, 2003, 08:55 | Despot | Comments Props to Shacknews for word that part three of RPGVault's interview with the Invisible War team, discussing such things as the modifications made to the Unreal technology licensed from Epic, weaponry and the lack of multiplayer. A couple new screenshots are available as well. |
Poll: IW Demo Saturday, November 29, 2003, 11:46 | Despot | Comments So, acting on a suggestion for Undertow, there's a new poll up--you'll find it directly below the skyscraper ad on the right-hand side of the page. The question, this time around: How was the IW demo? The last poll about modifying the DX HUD has been archived as well. |
Gameware.at to provide IW in Europe after US launch Saturday, November 29, 2003, 11:15 | Despot | Comments For those of you who don't mind paying a few extra euros, Christian Veber from Gameware.at has notified us that his site will be offering Invisible War in Europe after the US launch, for 61,45 Euro. Check the site for more details. |
Invisible War TV Spot Saturday, November 29, 2003, 11:07 | Despot | Comments From the "fun and interesting" department comes word from Dazza that the official site has a new TV Spot on available for viewing...slated primarily towards the XBox audience (predictably), but still worth a look to see how Deus Ex is hitting the mainstream. |
The Invisible War goodness continues... Saturday, November 29, 2003, 11:00 | Despot | Comments GameSpy has updated their on-going coverage once again, with a couple of interesting bits of editorial by the Staff, the first being IW Sessions in which they discuss Deus Ex: Invisible War in front of The Camera. Still waiting in a FilePlanet queue for that one, but the second feature, Pile-on, is very good, with various editors giving thoughts and impressions, both good and bad, about the game. This quote from Fargo was of particularly interest: Ben had to show me how you can "hide" the interface by setting the opacity to 0% -- then it'll only appear when you're selecting items, which is the only time you really need it. I'm rather surprised they didn't make that the default setting, but good news for those worried about the interface, nonetheless. |
GameSpy coverage of DX: IW Friday, November 28, 2003, 19:45 | Despot | Comments Vell, in case you hadn't noticed already, GameSpy.com has running on-going coverage, including an exclusive reviews of both PC and XBox versions. There's a whole lot more Invisible War goodness on the way, too, so the coverage index over the next few days. |
ION Speaks about the Demo Wednesday, November 26, 2003, 16:18 | Despot | Comments The ION Storm forums seem to have changed servers, but that didn't prevent Trestkon from spotting this thread in which Chris Carollo posts a message from Spector about the game, addressing many of the concerns raised and problems encountered by those of you who have played the demo. An excellent reference for those who are bothered by how the game plays, or are struggling with technical difficulties. |
Deus Ex: Invisible War goes Gold for PC and XBox Wednesday, November 26, 2003, 16:15 | Despot | Comments Gamespot reports that Eidos has announced both the PC and XBox versions of Deus Ex: Invisible War have "gone gold" and will be in stores a day ahead of schedule--December 2nd, 2003. Mark your calenders! |
Invisible War gets Wired Wednesday, November 26, 2003, 16:09 | Despot | Comments Word from the Invisible War newshoundProject Director witchboy is that the widely-read, tech-for-intellectuals Wired Magazine has a brief interview with Spector on Invisible War, by our favorite Wired gaming columnist, Wagner James Au. Nothing particularly new, but it's good to see game getting such high-profile attention. |
Gamers' Depot preview Wednesday, November 26, 2003, 16:05 | Despot | Comments Continuing the deluge of pre-release impressions, DX-M.com has word preview on Gamers' Depot--postive as usual. Here's a quote: We’ve been seeing a lot of FPS and RPG games hitting the shelves this year. There are many which have some excellent aspects, but few deliver the total package—awesome graphics, deep, long, and immersive game play, a strong plot, and some heavy replay value. Deus Ex: Invisible War seems to be a major contender in all those areas, and aside from just being downright gorgeous, runs like a dream and looks like it’s going to be a real blast. |
New MP map & utility Tuesday, November 25, 2003, 18:15 | Despot | Comments Deus Ex Ed has been updated after a lengthly hiatus with a couple submissions from TheSheep. The first and most important is a handy MP map installation utility that reduces the installation of new maps to cut & paste actions. He has also submitted a new map, entitled "SnipeSnipeSnipe." It should be fairly easy to guess its style of gameplay... |
Disclosure updates Tuesday, November 25, 2003, 18:13 | Despot | Comments Thanks to DeusEx-Machina.com for word of an small update to the Disclosure site, tantalizing us with the promise of Part 2 being released in December. Stay tuned for more! |
More IGN Q&A Tuesday, November 25, 2003, 18:08 | Despot | Comments Thanks to Shacknews for the word that IGN's RPGVault has another question and answer with various members of the Deus Ex team. Discussion of the augmentation system and Alex D. as a character ensues. Here's a snippet: Jonric: Considering JC Denton and other characters from Deus Ex will appear in Invisible War, will any of their relationships carry forward? Steve Powers: I don't think it's any secret that a few characters from Deus Ex will make appearances. Keep in mind that the elapsed time between the endgame of Deus Ex and the beginning of Invisible War has been a very trying time for the global population, and may have had a profound effect on your friends and enemies from the first game. Playing the first Deus Ex is not a requirement for this game, and you will not be playing JC Denton this time around, so the relationships he forged will not automatically be transferred to you. NPCs will learn about you by what you do and say, not what JC did. |
Developer chat log Tuesday, November 25, 2003, 17:43 | Despot | Comments In case you missed the chat with the ION Storm dev team, or wanted to review some points, GameSpy Arcade has posted a log of the proceedings. witchboy, Chris Carollo, and Jason Walker from Eidos answered questions--Spector also made a few comments, relayed by witchboy. Interesting stuff, mostly, I found the techtalk to be particularly helpful in regards to Upgrading the system so Invisble War can run. |
Demo Tweaker Updated Monday, November 24, 2003, 14:24 | Trestkon | Comments The Germans are at it again! DeusExZone has updated their Demo Tweaker to version 1.2. You can now select English or German, so us uni-language folks aren't left in the dark. I've also been informed that they will be adding several new features, such as the ability to scale down the ingame text, in the next few days. So keep your eyes peeled! |
Petition to Delay DX:IW Monday, November 24, 2003, 07:57 | Jonas Wæver | Comments Eric Chung has started a petition over at petitiononline, to delay DX2: Invisible War. He thinks that if the quality of the demo was an indication of what to expect of the full game, ISA should give themselves some more time to address a couple of issues. The list of stuff to fix is in the petition. So if the demo didn't live up to your expectations, you should perhaps consider signing the petition. |
Denton's Databank: Reloaded Sunday, November 23, 2003, 17:59 | Trestkon | Comments Denton's Databank has updated with a very handy demo walkthough, that also includes plenty of troubleshooting and tweaking tips. If the quality of their original Deus Ex walkthroughs is any indication, we can expect some great stuff when Invisible War hits the shelves. For those of us who don't want to think too much, that is ;) |
DX:IW Demo Tweaker Saturday, November 22, 2003, 15:47 | Trestkon | Comments The extremely expedient fellows over at DeusexZone have made available a Demo Tweaker for the Deus Ex: Invisible War demo. This little gem will do everything from removing the mouselag to repositioning the HUD so you have more space to see the looks of abject terror on your victims faces. What are you waiting for? Download it now! Note: The "speichern" button translates to "Save" |
DEMO IS OUT!!! Friday, November 21, 2003, 10:43 | King Kashue | Comments You must go...You must go now...You must go now and GET THE DEMO!!!... *Kashue collapses, choking on his own tongue* Mirrors: 3DGamers.com, Eidos Interactive, Boomtown, FileRush, FileShack, Gamershell, NWSGaming, and Worthplaying. |
IGN with more developer diaries Friday, November 21, 2003, 15:24 | Despot | Comments Thanks to rasmus and d j for the note about this developer diary from the Invisible War team, talking about various aspects of the game, most notably the sound work. Here's a quote: For the first implementation of this system[the physics-sound], I got our sound designers to record themselves just speaking the words "Bounce!" and "Crash!" as well as "Roll" and "Slide", with the "o" and "i" looped, respectively, so I could draw them out for particularly long rolls and slides. The end result was a great proof of concept and also pretty hysterical, as you'd knock over a barrel and hear a cacophony: "Bounce! Bounce! Crash, crash, crash! Rooooooollllllllllll...Sliiiiiiiiiiiiiiide!" Surreal. |
Previewage Friday, November 21, 2003, 15:10 | Despot | Comments A couple more previews to whet your appetite:
|
GameSpy Chat, take 2 Friday, November 21, 2003, 08:29 | Despot | Comments Thanks once again to Da_Terminator for pointing out a re-announcement of GameSpy's developer chat with ION Storm--apparently it was cancelled yesterday. The new time is: Friday, November 21st, 4:00 p.m. PDT, 7:00 p.m. EDT, Midnight GMT. If you have GameSpy Arcade, just click here, if you don't have the software, you can download it here. |
GameSpy with more Extra content Thursday, November 20, 2003, 08:55 | Despot | Comments Still no demo to be seen, but GameSpy has put up a short preview of the PC version, with one new screenshot. They also have an article on the characters and organizations found in the game, including JC Denton, with something akin to a facelift, and three pages of new screenshots. |
GameSpy chat with the Team Thursday, November 20, 2003, 08:01 | Despot | Comments Thanks to Da_Terminator for pointing out this notice, which tells of a developer chat with the Invisible War team in the GameSpy Arcade. It will be happening today, November 20th, at 4 PM PST, which works out to 7 PM EDT, and midnight in the GMT timezone. If you don't have the GameSpy Arcade software, you can grab it here, otherwise just click this link to join. |
More gameplay impressions Wednesday, November 19, 2003, 17:34 | Despot | Comments Thanks again to witchboy (who ought to join the PDX news staff) for the link to another hands-on playtest report. This particular reviewer took a slightly unusual tack: he killed everyone...and the game hasn't b0rked yet! Here's a bit of quotage: Right now I've barely scratched the surface of Deus Ex, but I am thus far, wholly impressed. The game is gorgeous, the fiction is engaging, and the play is faithful to the original (I am curious to see how it all plays out). And, even though I'd very much like a more satisfying flame throwing experience (it's a dreadful effect), the feeling of Deus Ex is quickly returning. It takes a while for it to set in, but when it does, and you finally realize that you truly can do pretty much whatever you like while exploring this grand world, building your character into a super force to be reckoned with and unraveling this complex plot, it's simply impossible to deny. |
It comes... Tuesday, November 18, 2003, 18:48 | Despot | Comments 20th of November. I don't really need to say more...except props to Yardbomb for pointing it out on IRC. |
UGO screenage Tuesday, November 18, 2003, 19:19 | Despot | Comments Thanks to DeusExGaming.com for the word that their mother site, UGO.com, has posted some screenshots of the game, some that appear to be new. They also have a streaming version of the video found on the official site, in which Spector discusses the game and the Deus Ex universe. Apparently I have "hands-on impression" burned into my brain, I went to UGO expecting that, got confused when I saw a screenshots link... |
FiringSquad hands-on Tuesday, November 18, 2003, 18:35 | Despot | Comments Thanks to DXGaming.com for the word of some new hands-on impressions from Thresh's FiringSquad. New screenshots liberally sprinkled throughout the article seen as well. The general impression seems to be (Deus Ex) taken to the nth degree. Where the nth degree is infinitely close to the point at which one is reduced to incoherent babblings and slack-jawed spasms of amazement that are indistinguisable from the seizures they always warn you about... |
RPG Vault interviews the Crew Tuesday, November 18, 2003, 18:27 | Despot | Comments witchboy sends word that the folks at IGN's RPG branch, not to be out-done by their PC-loving brethren, have posted an interview with several members of the team, including witchboy himself, Spector (who NEEDS no nick), Matt Baer, Sarah Paetsch, Sheldon Pacotti, Ricardo Bare, and Steve Powers. They discuss the accessibility issue, locations, and several other aspects of the game, primarily in hindsight it would seem, as the game is very close to "going gold." |
Playtest impressions from IGN Tuesday, November 18, 2003, 18:20 | Despot | Comments Thanks to Stereo for the link to this article on PC.IGN.com, with much drool-inducing commentary about how the game plays, as well as some new media. Here's a bit of quotage: ...I have not managed to finish the game. In fact, I've really only scratched the surface. I'm still not sure who to trust and I don't really know what's going on, but my brain is constantly trying to piece together different conversations and bits of information into some sort of coherent theory about who the good guys and bad guys are and why they're fighting, which is actually pretty exciting and unusual for most games. |
New Great Warren Spector Interview Saturday, November 15, 2003, 03:37 | Jonas Wæver | Comments A new interview with Warren Spector has been posted at Eurogamer. The interview was conducted by Kieron Gillen (you know - from The Cassandra Project and PC Gamer), and - as he correctly said - it's a good one. In fact, in my own personal opinion (which is of course completely irrelevant, but here it is anyway), it's one of the best Invisible War interviews so far. One of the more interesting questions is this: Kieron Gillen: Down endings in PC games are an odd one. A few try them, and just end up stinking of nihilism. Others - and I'm thinking of the tragedy of Planescape Torment here - succeed beautifully. But, ultimately, if you're worried about it... why take the risk? Warren Spector: Well, it's an interesting risk. I can't wait to see how people respond to it. At some levels, that's good enough. And Eidos trust me and my studio enough. We have a track record of not taking the type of risks that destroys us critically or commercially. Costing some sales is not the same as not being profitable. We're still clearly profitable and it's an interesting thing to try out. And it's not like these are down endings per se - these are all endings that follow naturally from the goals expressed from all the groups in the game. They are for the purposes of the game, how the world should look. We can't have infinite end games. The team didn't want to encourage one single ending - so we ended up with a bunch that made you think. Other good questions include a comparison of Deus Ex and Thief and the answer to why the team chose not to use differentiated ammo types, and why Spector is a bit worried about that. Give it a read, it's quite good. |
GameSpy does IW "Extras" Thursday, November 13, 2003, 17:04 | Despot | Comments witchboy sends word of this article on GameSpy.com that discusses various items and tools in the game (gotta love the description of the soy packet), then moves on to brief descriptions of various bots and transgenics that are found in the game. Good stuff, well worth the read, although it may spoil the game slightly for those that would rather experience the world first-hand. |
Invisible Site updates Thursday, November 13, 2003, 16:55 | Despot | Comments Thanks once again to Trestkon for word that the official IW site has been updated with a lot of new content. New info on characters, biomods, and weapons, as well as new wallpapers, screenshots, trailers, screensaver and a fansite kit. As if we NEEDED any more incentive to buy this game...;) |
Gamesradar hands-on playtest Wednesday, November 12, 2003, 23:38 | Despot | Comments Thanks to Stereo for the link to a impressions from a hands-on playtest of Invisible War. It's two very full pages in length, so there's a lot of info to be had about how it plays. Some is a bit spoiler-ish, however, so proceed with caution. There's some rather new-looking screenshots as well. |
And thick and fast, it came at last... Tuesday, November 11, 2003, 17:57 | Despot | Comments Trestkon is the n00s man tonight, also bringing us word of 6 new gameplay clips on Gamershell. Check it out, but be warned: they contain spoilerish information. Edit: the clips have been taken down at Eidos' request. In addition, they were apparently from a 1-2 month old build of the game, so we can rest assured that the clips don't represent the final product. |
System specifications confirmed Tuesday, November 11, 2003, 17:47 | Despot | Comments Thanks to Trestkon for this thread which points to one on the ION Storm forums that has the detailed system specs for Invisible War. More news of Deus Ex from C&VG Tuesday, November 11, 2003, 11:43 | Despot | Comments Apparently, Computer and Video Games has decided to change their name to Deus Ex and Video Games--a couple bits of news from them today: The first (thanks to DXGaming for the word) is a two-part interview with Warren Spector, the first part discussing Deus Ex and the gaming industry, the second (thanks ShackNews) goes into more detail about the Invisible War. The other cool bit of news is that the FULL version (not demo, shareware or half-way version) of Deus Ex, as well as several other games such as Thief II, will be available on a DVD that comes with the January 2004 of their magazine, according to this forum post (thanks again to DXGaming). Good stuff, if you've never picked up a copy of these two excellent titles, there's really no excuse any more. |
TNM Developers Diary Tuesday, November 11, 2003, 08:54 | Jonas Wæver | Comments Trestkon wanted us to know that he's posted the first issue of the new so-called "Developers Diary" of The Nameless Mod. This diary is basically the inside newsletter, which serves the purpose of updating all teammembers on the status of the mod. First issue is more than a year old, but some interesting (if outdated) stuff is in there. The link can be found on the TNM site. |
Deus Ex 3 confirmed Monday, November 10, 2003, 11:35 | Despot | Comments Thanks to TTLG for word of a Computer and Video Games report that says Deus Ex 3 is in the preliminary stages of development. Nothing is known about it, naturally, but exciting news indeed! |
DXMP URL 0.2 Monday, November 10, 2003, 03:53 | Jonas Wæver | Comments Da_Terminator has created an registry update called DXMP URL 0.2. The file alters the registry so that players can link a shortcut to a DXMP server directly, rather than first having to launch the game and then connecting to the server. In other words, your DX shortcut will now instantly connect to a server after opening the game. You can download the file here. The included readme contains further details. |
Sheldon Pacotti's Journal Friday, November 7, 2003, 15:29 | Jonas Wæver | Comments We've recieved a tip about a developer's journal by Sheldon Pacotti having been released on IGN. Pacotti is the lead writer for Invisible War, which means he should have quite a good grasp on the story and the world. According to the introduction on the site, there will be similar journals from other developers of the game between now, and the release. Happy reading. |
TNM Updates Thursday, November 6, 2003, 17:18 | Despot | Comments Trestkon from The Nameless Mod sends word of some Updates about the mod--the soon-to-be-released video that showcases the mod, the assembly of an Alpha, and an invitation to visit their forum, to name a few. Give them a hit for more info. |
A tasty morsel of Invisible action Tuesday, November 4, 2003, 20:10 | Despot | Comments The updates are coming fast and furious now, with release a month away...this time we have a gameplay video, which shows off about a minute and a half Invisible War play. The "up and coming band" that ION has mentioned in the past, kidneythieves, has a featured tune, "Pleasant." Thanks to those who've e-mailed us with mirrors, there are currently three (that I'm aware of): GamersHell , FileShack, and DeusExZone.info. Get downloadin'! |
New screenshots Saturday, November 1, 2003, 15:22 | Despot | Comments Thanks to Anian from the Invisible War forum for pointing out a newspost on GamersHell, with links to PC and XBox screenshots, several of which are new. The game is starting to look quite polished, I particularly like this shot of a security bot. Anticipation...rising... Edit: removed link to individual shot, their linking policy is rather draconian...you'll just have to endure the shoddy web design to get to the screenie goodness. |
UK IW Site Saturday, November 1, 2003, 14:08 | Despot | Comments Thanks to ShadowCode from Planet Black and White for word that the UK version of the new Invisible War site. He also mentions this video of Warren Spector discussing the game, in the Downloads section. May or may not be new, but Spector's comments about the game are well worth the download, if you haven't seen it already. |
Ashes to Ashes: Forsaken Friday, October 31, 2003, 12:01 | Despot | Comments Ion has been at it again, this time producing a third chapter of his Ashes to Ashes fanfic. More conspiracy and intrigue involving our favority UNATCO operative, John Murphy, and a few more bits of the main Deus Ex storyline manifesting themselves...read on. |
Need some sparkles? Sunday, October 26, 2003, 11:09 | slicer | Comments If you happen to live in the UK and are in need of something to liven up the 5th of November (Guy Fawkes Night), Phasmatis of PartyZone has created just the right Sparkler for you ;) The sparkler is a nice addition to a party, light up the room with this hand held firework, don't get too close to someone though as you may cause them some damage. The sparkler is a completely new weapon, it has a completely new model, animation and sounds. While PartyZone weapons don't usually cause damage, this one does, but only 1 hit point, so it will take a long time to kill someone. Note that you need make a map to use the weapon mod since no maps are available at present, so getting mapping! |
DX:IW Updates Sunday, October 26, 2003, 11:01 | slicer | Comments The official Deus Ex: Invisible War has been updated again with more in-depth details of the game, including weapons and biomods. Furthermore to the development of DX:IW, Ion Storm has confirmed officially through their forums that there are no plans to develop a SDK for DX:IW. A big blow to the modding community, it shall be :( |

WS speaks on Invisible War Thursday, October 23, 2003, 13:02 | Despot | Comments Thanks to TJorris for the link to an interview with WS about the upcoming Deus Ex title. Good questions asked, and very interesting answers provided from Spector--here's what he had to say about multiplayer support: In the original Deus Ex, Multi-player modes were only added later, seemingly as an afterthought. What does ION Storm have planned in terms of multi-player for Deus Ex: Invisible War? The Deus Ex multi-player stuff was kind of an interesting experiment but it was never the core of what we were about. Same thing for Invisible War. At this time, we're focusing on the single-player experience, exclusively. No plans, really, for multiplayer. |
PartyZone Resurrected Thursday, October 23, 2003, 02:28 | Jonas Wæver | Comments Word from Phasmatis is that he has revived the PartyZone mod, which was formerly in stasis. A few new maps have been released (two, as far as I can tell), the slot machine model has been updated and a new stereo mod has been added! For more details, check out the newly redesigned site. |
A bit o' fanfiction Tuesday, October 21, 2003, 14:22 | Despot | Comments A new fan fiction has been submitted by Matthew Wraggs, titled after its main character, Decker Parkes. Chapter 1 is online as of now. Here's the introductory paragraph as a teaser: The coffee filled mug sat silently on top of the scratched and dented table surface, it had gone cold, left there forgotten in the anxious waiting of its consumer, Decker Parkes. Decker was a Northern Secessionist Forces (NSF) member, he had been for years, and now an ageing man, just pushing middle age, he was seen as a veteran, the newer NSF recruits would look up to him with inspired eyes since he was around when the NSF was formed, he had met one of the founding members, the NSF general Leon Woods, even now he could still recall the speeches Leon Woods used to give. Decker paced back and forth in his bedroom, mind wondering, awaiting the precious call from his contact, he needed to get out, to escape the United States with his two close friends Wayne and Erin. |
New Invisible War screenage for the Xbox Tuesday, October 21, 2003, 10:25 | Despot | Comments Thanks to Magnus Ramsdalen for the link to these screenshots of the Xbox version of the up-coming DX title. Some are old, but the first few are new and of interest, particularly this shot, showing the Bot Domination mod in action. |
Best Buy preorder perks Tuesday, October 21, 2003, 10:13 | Despot | Comments Thanks to Sam with the unusual surname of "nottelling" for a note that Best Buy appears to have preorder boxes for Invisible War on display, and they come with a t-shirt of the "packing large hand gun" version of the male Alex Denton, apparently the same picture as the wallpaper on the official site. So if you haven't preordered months ago... |
ALPHA project started Monday, October 20, 2003, 12:15 | Jonas Wæver | Comments A new clan-based project has been started over at planetdeusex.ru. It's called ALPHA, and apparently differs from most clans in that the goal isn't to beat everybody in DXMP; they strive to make it better. If you want to know how they plan to do this, read the About section of their website. According to Daedalus, the clan is developing a modification for Deus Ex Multi-player. Currently, they're experiencing some start-up problems, but some new members will help them get over it. So check out their site and sign up if you'd like to give 'em a hand. |
GitM Updated Wednesday, October 15, 2003, 03:11 | Jonas Wæver | Comments GitM has been updated for the first time in 3 months. According to the newspost, however, that is no sign of missing activity in the mod. Rather in the contrary, it would seem they've got pretty far in the development process, seeing as they are now looking for voice actors. All applicants must submit two samples of 30 seconds from any piece of film or theatre, and include information on any previous acting experience in an email to randomatic. |
New Invisible War site Friday, October 10, 2003, 16:33 | Despot | Comments Thanks to zee witchboy for the ICQ about a new site for Deus Ex: Invisible War. I haven't had a chance to full investigate, but there appears to be quite a bit of new stuff such as info on a couple characters, developer diaries...also a couple of wallpapers that are quite yes, yes, more, please. Check it! Also on the site: official release date: 12/03/2003. YEA! |
Ask ION Friday, October 10, 2003, 06:41 | Jonas Wæver | Comments Over at DeusExZone, all members of their forums now get the opportunity to submit a question to the developers of Deus Ex 2: Invisible war. 15 questions will be chosen and sent to ISA. You may post questions in english as well as german, but you will of course have to register for the forums first. |
DX2 Preview Summary Friday, October 10, 2003, 03:22 | Jonas Wæver | Comments AtomicMatter has created what could best be described as a preview summary of Invisible War, containing all the information he could find in previews all over the Net. Since new information constantly finds its way to the surface, however, he might keep updating it until the game is released. The preview can be found at a new site called Preys-World. |
Zodiac in a magazine Wednesday, October 8, 2003, 08:43 | Winquman | Comments Got a fun note from Deus Diablo - apparently the UK PCGamer sister magazine PC Format mentioned the Zodiak mod in their issue 153. On page 142 to be more exact. Basically, it's just a picture, but with this text on it: "Zodiac is one of the biggest Deus Ex mods. Worth a play, eh?” Fun to see Deus Ex mods still get some attention in mags. |
DX NameControl Mutator Released Wednesday, October 8, 2003, 05:31 | Jonas Wæver | Comments According to a well-timed newstip from Da_Terminator, a NameControl Mutator has been released for Deus Ex Multiplayer, and is available from here. The mutator allows you to control player names, and can be used to prevent impersonators, as well as banning specified names to prevent players from changing their IP and come back to evade an IP ban. Additional information can be found on this page. Remember to check out the readme included in the zip for instructions, and send a mail to Jim Bowen or Da_Terminator if you have any questions or comments. |
Tools for modders Tuesday, October 7, 2003, 14:43 | Winquman | Comments We got a mail from DT that might interest you modders out there: I've started a thread on the PDX editing forum and I'm trying to compile a list of useful tools for modders (mainly for the up coming DX:IW) and it'd be great if some of the community of modders out there could suggest tools that they find useful so we can get a real comprehensive list together. So if anyone has any suggestions for free (or commercial) apps that you find useful when modding please post them to the thread:) |
Wittkuhn Interview in English Tuesday, September 23, 2003, 11:08 | Jonas Wæver | Comments It would appear Game-Radio has finally put up an english version of that Lars Wittkuhn interview we posted about a few days ago. As was mentioned before, the interview was conducted at the Games Convention, and Lars Wittkuhn is Eidos' product manager of Deus Ex 2. |
TNM Wants Mapper Saturday, September 20, 2003, 14:09 | Jonas Wæver | Comments We have recieved the following mail from Trestkon, of The Nameless Mod: Yet again The Nameless Mod must send a call into the ever evaporating pool of mappers and summon forth a professional. Currently, production is moving along, but it would be a great boon to have an additional mapper on the team. We are looking for someone experienced and adept at their craft, as they will be completing a level that has been started and is quite high caliber. If you are interested in this position, please email me (Trestkon@planetdeusex.com) with a link to, or a sample of your work. The DX community may be small, but we know you UED wranglers are out there, Off Topic Productions needs you! |
Words from the Lead Thursday, September 18, 2003, 10:46 | Despot | Comments New interview up on GameSpy, talking with Harvey "witchboy" Smith, talking about Invisible War, AI, simulations, the team at ION, and various other game-related topics. Here's a bit of quotage: GameSpy: How has co-development for the Xbox affected the final outcome on Invisible War, especially on the PC? Harvey Smith: We were pretty serious early on about saying, "Hey, we're not making a console game. We're going to bring our experience to the console." And that's why we chose Xbox. We knew if we had gone with any other console, we really wouldn't have been able to do that. We would have to cut everything in half. The Xbox has a lot of memory for a console. The only difference really that it's brought is that we have two different sets of textures planned, one for the PC that's higher res and one for the Xbox that's lower res. The maps are also split up into smaller chunks for the Xbox, which kind of works out. Like you're walking down the street, you go into the bar, there's a mini map load, and then you're in the bar. It's a console standard. |
Game-Radio DX2 Preview Monday, September 15, 2003, 10:05 | Jonas Wæver | Comments The german online radio Game-Radio have tipped us off about their new preview of DX2: Invisible War. The preview contains a bunch of facts about the game, some screenshots and 3 exclusive wallpapers apparently depicting the male and female versions of the main character, Alex D. For the preview, Game-Radio also interviewed Lars Wittkuhn - Eidos' product manager of Deus Ex 2 - at the Games Convention. You can listen to the interview here. |
New Hosted Site: Burdon of 80 Proof Friday, September 12, 2003, 11:04 | Despot | Comments A few stirrings of life in the modding community recently, the latest being a new mod here on PDX: Burden of 80 Proof. Unlike most, however, the mod is actually Finished, and ready for download from their Files page. Wonder what it's all about? Here's a snip from the About page: You take on the role of Peter Kent: gallant gamer, put-upon party-goer, ersatz errand boy, suburban swashbuckler. Navigate a middle-class morass of whiny girlfriends, surly cops, slippery coworkers, surly bartenders, surly bosses, and more. Your mission: procure an ever-growing list of supplies to ensure an appropriately inappropriate weekend of drinking, revelry, and what have you. Features:
Looks quite interesting and novel! Note that it's untested as of yet, however, so play at your own risk. |
Dyed hair at ION Friday, September 12, 2003, 11:50 | Despot | The crazy things game developers do...witchboy sent over a link to some new pictures of various team members, who have apparently decided to dye their hair odd colors. I think this is a fairly good indicator of the mental state ("mental" in more than one way) of the team--the dye undoubtedly conceals all the gray hairs they've developed... |
Updated DeathScythe Mod Friday, September 12, 2003, 11:40 | Despot | Comments Just received an updated version of the DeathScythe mod--this version contains the following weapons:
You can grab the 5 kilobyte file here. |
Progress report from UNATCO Born Friday, September 12, 2003, 11:27 | Despot | Comments UNATCO Born has word of a new HUD (screenies later), a bit of info on the helicopter, and a note about progress on the maps, which are close to completion: they see a release is on the horizon, so stay tuned. |
News restored... Wednesday, September 10, 2003, 09:04 | Winquman | Comments OK, as you can see, something kind of changed here overnight. The news system went bonkers on us and decided to completly remove all news from August the 1st until now. So who do you think got the great honour in manually restoring all the news? Well, guess once :P Anyway, this is the reason some of the old news posts aren't as they were yesterday, and that some of them have no comment thread attached to them. Use the old comment threads in the news forum instead. Anyway, I've done my best restoring as much as possible, so even if it's not perfect, it's better then an empty front page ;) |
It Never Ends Tuesday, September 9, 2003, 08:50 | Winquman | And the press wagon keeps on rolling. Now Gamespy has posted a new preview of Invisible War. You can find it by clicking this silly little link. |
And Another Monday, September 8, 2003, 08:50 | Winquman | PC.IGN has also posted some hands-on impressions of Invisible War. You can dig it here. |

Jeff Groteboer, aka Gunther Hermann, dead Sunday, September 7, 2003, 08:49 | Winquman | Jeff Groteboer, the voice actor of Gunther Herrmann, died in July this year. He has been voice acting for several different gaming producers and a full (?) list can be found here. I think we will all remember his voice, even though he is no longer with us. |
New DX:IW Movies Saturday, September 6, 2003, 08:47 | Winquman | IGN has some new shakycam movies of Deus Ex: Invisible War. They're all pretty short and don't show much, however. You can download the movies here. Thanks to Shadowcode for letting us know about them as well as the Gamespot preview. |
New DX OpenGL renderer Saturday, September 6, 2003, 08:46 | Winquman | You can find a new build of the Deus Ex OpenGL renderer on Chris Dohnal's UT OpenGL renderer site: I built an updated version of the renderer for Deus Ex. It contains general updates and a couple more Deus Ex specific fixes from Leonhard Gruenschloss. Maybe it's worth a try? |

Word from the Chronos Mod Tuesday, September 2, 2003, 08:44 | Winquman | Got this message from aUnt beTty regarding the Chronos Mod: The Chronos Project has reached what is deemed the climax. This modification features bullet time, winter effects, new skins for most NPC's and the player himself. New weapons as well. The project is at a "finished" state for the first few maps, but interest among beta testers as well as the Deus Ex community has dwindled and further reason to continue is not very clear. Supporters like Vavrek are appreciated. On top of this, I'm not going to mess around with Deus Ex any further and I have my doubts about returning for the sequel. Screenshots or further information on the Chronos Project can be found at our site. The .zip file containing the most updated version of the mod can be found here: http://www.planetdeusex.com/chronos/chronosdownloads/ChronosPhaseIBeta.zip Questions and comments are welcome. Please direct them to aUnt beTty at Ardoryan@aol.com Also note that the mod's chat channel is still open, click on the link to access it, or log on to Gamesnet.net and join #chronos if you don't use mIRC. |
Zodiac Part 2 Full Monday, September 1, 2003, 08:43 | Winquman | The Zodiac mod's site has been updated with word that the full install version of Part 2 is now available for download--those of you who are new to Zodiac will want to grab this version instead of upgrading from Part 1. Download links can be found the site's downloads page. |
TNM Update Monday, September 1, 2003, 08:42 | Winquman | Trestkon sends word that the site of The Nameless Mod has been updated with a new POTW featuring a vista of the beautiful Goat City™, and a few news tidbits in the latest couple of items on the page. He would also like to point out the fact that random, boundless complimenting and worshipping is welcome in the public forums. |
Deus Ex Starcraft Monday, September 1, 2003, 08:39 | Winquman | Codeman3 mailed us concerning his new extensive modification called Deus Ex Starcraft (or DXSC for short). Here's a brief description from their site/forums: This is going to be a mod to the game Deus Ex. What it is meant to do is remake the Starcraft world in the Unreal engine. This project has been going on for quite some time now and we're nowhere near done. There will be everything from your favorite Starcraft characters to buildings and vehicles in a 3D world. This will be a must have for all you Starcraft fans out there who just want to see Starcraft: Ghost come out on PC. So far, the team is missing a webmaster, 2 coders, 2 modellers, a musican, a texture artist and 3 testers. If you're interested, post a sample of your work here. |

DX: IW Intro screenshots Sunday, August 24, 2003, 21:12 | Winquman | Dial-up users will be happy about this: Gwog (former Lord and Master of this site) has been kind enough to grab a load of screenshots from the DX: IW intro for those of you without the necessary bandwidth to get the movie itself. Check 'em out here. |
DX2 Intro Movie Tuesday, August 19, 2003, 08:27 | Winquman | Thanks to Frans at 3DGamers for letting us know they've posted the intro movie for Deus Ex: Invisible War on their servers. You can dig it here. |
New Mod: WeaponLord Friday, July 25, 2003, 20:21 | Despot | Comments Thanks to randomatic from Ghost in the Machine for pointing me to a new mod that has just been released, entitled "WeaponLord": 'tis a large quantity of new weapons for singleplayer DX, with which to lay the smack down on all who assail your person. A list, with descriptions, of the weaponry can be found here (installation instructions too), and the mod itself is available for download here. Enjoy. |
Modifications Friday, July 25, 2003, 18:56 | Despot | Comments Various bits o' mod news:
|
Nanotech Circuit Boards Friday, July 25, 2003, 13:07 | Jonas Wæver | Comments It appears that some scientists from Wisconsin have made molecules form straight lines, which may lead to the development of nanotech circuit boards. You can read the details on ZDNet. I somehow find this a bit more believable than the previously mentioned "nanotech pants" ;D |
DX: IW Not Delayed Wednesday, July 23, 2003, 21:07 | Kaigen | Comments Apparently Ion producer Bill Money has denied that DX:IW has been delayed in this thread on the official Ion Storm forums. Look for the post by OneEye. |
DX:IW delayed? Wednesday, July 23, 2003, 11:37 | Kaigen | Comments New Zealand website GamePlanet is reporting that an Eidos rep has confirmed to them that Deus Ex: Invisible War for both the PC and XBox has been delayed until Q1 2004. Considering this news hasn't been posted anywhere else that I've seen, I'd take it with a grain of salt for the time being. It could very well turn up false or simply be the NZ/Australia release. You can see the news story here. Just scroll down to Monday's news. |
Deus Ex for real? Monday, July 21, 2003, 16:20 | Winquman | Comments NoElephant was kind enough to point out this article for us. Nanotechnology in pants? Is the future already here? Well, maybe not... |
New multiplayer mod! Monday, July 21, 2003, 15:41 | Winquman | Comments Da_Terminator has made us aware of a new Deus Ex multiplayer mod called simply "King", made by |GHOST|TheKing a.k.a. Tweety[TCNdk]: Its mostly aimed at new players, who don't have enough skill to compete in an advanced team deathmatch game and non aug players.
You can download it here. Enjoy. |
Music bits from Zodiac Saturday, July 12, 2003, 17:49 | Despot | Comments This appears to be the day of follow-up newsposts: Steve Foxon, the music man for Zodiac, has let me know that the music from part two of his Zodiac campaign is available at Orak's Music Emporium in MP3 format. The tracks I've downloaded sounds quite good, definitely worth a look and listen. |

Code for the Nameless Mod Friday, July 11, 2003, 23:47 | Despot | Comments This request from Trestkon, regarding The Nameless Mod: As seems to be the norm for us, we must yet again search the community for a brilliant coder. Preferable, this individual would be hex-proof, as it seems someone has placed some sort of a voodoo curse on the TNM coding position (*glares at randomatic*) Seriously though, we are seeking a competant coder who will be able to impliment our many cheat codes, hammer out our modified hud and in general made our crazy ideas a reality. If this sounds like you, please email me at Trestkon@planetdeusex.com or drop by our forums. |
New Hosted Site: Ghost in the Machine Thursday, July 10, 2003, 19:34 | Despot | Comments Been a while, but it is once again the time to annouce a cool new Hosted Site: Ghost in the Machine, a very good-looking TC set in a dystopic Free State of Los Angeles, circa 2099. A new protagonist, a private apartment, and the abilty to change cloths in-game are just a few of the several very cool enhancements planned. Their Features page has the details. randomatic, the project lead, has this to say: Hello. On behalf of Ghost in the Machine, we are happy to be a part of the GameSpy family. More importantly we are happy to join the PDX family. Because of the support of the community, and the continued determination of other mod teams out there (you know who you are!), we find the inspiration to remain on course with a clear destination in mind. Thank you to all! Once some technical difficulties are cleared up, there will also be a new forum where you can chat it up with the dev team and give feedback. |
More Cassandra News Wednesday, July 9, 2003, 18:11 | Despot | Comments In a grave departure from tradition, there has been two newsbits regarding the The Cassandra Project within a month of each other: the first episode being released and now an interview on Jucaushii.ro (thanks DX-M.com). Very interesting comments from the Project Lead regarding the upcoming episodes, release dates, and suchlike. Give it a read here. |
The Narcissus Spoke Wednesday, July 2, 2003, 02:40 | Jonas Wæver | Comments The great Narcissus Entity appears to be in a generous mood at the moment. It has decided to release the first episode of the Cassandra Project to the public. Download links to the first episode of the mod can be found here, and the file is about 24MB. On a sidenote, would anybody out there happen to have 30 tons of obsidian to spare? |
Getting to Know Warren Spector Monday, June 30, 2003, 17:37 | Kaigen | Comments Ion boss-man Warren Spector is the latest subject of RPGDot's Ad Personam series, where they ask all kinds of hard-hitting questions like "What is your favorite movie?" or "What is your favorite book?" To hear Warren's shocking replies you can read the article right here. |

You can find that article in all its glory here. |
Deus Ex for $3.49 Wednesday, June 18, 2003, 20:11 | Despot | Comments Interesting little tidbit spotted over on Evil Avatar: GoGamer.com is having one of their 48 Hour Madness sales (games for Really Low Prices), and DX is being sold for three dollars and forty-nine cents. Pretty nice price tag there--all you unenlightened types that haven't a copy of this Most Excellent game should definitely part with a few dollars of your lunch money. Suddenly pirating the game looks more pathetic than illegal. |
Hardcore DX 1.2 Thursday, June 12, 2003, 22:01 | Despot | Comments Word from Hejhujka is there's a new version of his mod, Hardcore DX, available for download here. Hardcore mod from Hejhujka Thursday, June 5, 2003, 10:10 | Despot | Comments Just got a link and a description of a very cool-sounding mod from Hejhujka. The description's rather long, but here it be. 1. This mod is actually a rebuilded DeusEx.u package file and therefore all the changes are integrated in the game. The installation is very easy: unlike in my previous mods you don't need to modify ini and/or map files. Size: 3,5 mb. 2. Major changes in the single player game:
3. Brand new Multiplayer:
4. Important note for community members: If you don't like "kill' em all" style hardcore FPS games (both single and multiplayer), please don't download this mod. 5. Don't forget to check the readme file. Whoa. Pretty impressive for one guy. Here's the download link again: link. |
TNM POTW Updated Thursday, June 5, 2003, 08:07 | Jonas Wæver | Comments The Picture Of The Week of The Nameless Mod has been updated after what seems to be the longest week in history! A screenshot from the previously secret DXI level has been posted. The level is being created by the newest mapper on the team, Beeblequix, whose job it is to steal anything he gets near and put it in the map. Therefore, it is very likely that you recognize the scenery in the POTW. |
Deus Ex 2027 Online Thursday, June 5, 2003, 07:56 | Jonas Wæver | Comments In spite of much trouble with the news system, here comes a very belated update from the Deus Ex: 2027 mod: The website of the mod has been uploaded. It's a very stylish website, and anyone wanting to learn Russian may find it useful. They're also looking for good level designers, 2D and 3D artists, so drop Ded a mail if you fit into one of those categories and are interested in helping developing the mod. |
Pics from The Harvey and Warren Show Wednesday, June 4, 2003, 15:45 | Despot | Comments witchboy has sent over a link to a summary with pics of a June meeting of IGDA in Montreal. Mr. Smith was one of the presenters, so there's a bit of descriptive-type stuff about his talk, and photos. Another link witchboy pointed out (because of the DX reference) is one of The Onion's humorous articles: Who Will Carry On My PlayStation 2 Adventures After I'm Gone?. Dripping with pathos, to be sure. |
nVIDIA DX:IW Screenage Thursday, May 29, 2003, 17:24 | Kaigen | Comments Thanks to Taeralis for pointing out this page on nVIDIA's site that contains several new screenshots of Deus Ex: Invisible War, including a very clear shot of the new Tracer Tong. You can find that page by clicking here. |
Firing Squad DX:IW E3 Preview Wednesday, May 28, 2003, 16:08 | Kaigen | Comments Firing Squad has a three-page preview of Deus Ex: Invisible War, continuing their series of such coverage. There's a couple screenshots I didn't recognize, but no real new info. Check it out here if you're curious. |
UnCodeX version 1.0 Tuesday, May 27, 2003, 19:03 | Despot | Comments Of interest to the modders among us: UnCodeX 1.0 has been released--a combination of UClasses and UnDox created by El Muerte [TDS]. It is one of many projects developed on the UnrealWiki, the Unreal documentation site--http://wiki.beyondunreal.com/ UnCodeX can create a class and package tree from the UnrealScript sources, analyse the content of each class for later use. UnCodeX also gives you the ability to create a highly detailed HTML API reference from your code. It includes all definitions made in classes, syntax hilighted source code, links to the type declarations, automatic JavaDoc-like documentation from your source code and much more. Considering the ultra-coolness that Javadocs is, this should be quite useful, until Invisible War, at least. |
More about the DX.com face-lift Tuesday, May 27, 2003, 18:52 | Despot | Comments Thanks to Abom|nation for pointing out a bit I missed mentioning on the note about the Deus-Ex.com re-design: a registration page, which subscribes you to some sort of news letter from Eidos, which will apparently be sending out info of an exclusive nature about The New Game at unspecified intervals. If you're a resident of the United States, you also get a free promotional DVD (contents not enumerated). It's difficult to determine how much info will come from this source, but if you don't mind being on Eidos' spammailing list, give it a hit. |
E3 Impressions Tuesday, May 20, 2003, 13:45 | Despot | Comments I got a chance to look at Deus Ex: Invisible War while at E3 this year, and naturally took some notes, which have been organized into an impressions article, covering gameplay thoughts, release estimates, how well the interface works, and so forth. |
DX:IW E3 Videos Wednesday, May 14, 2003, 18:16 | Kaigen | Comments IGN has posted two videos from the E3 show floor of Deus Ex: Invisible War. Servers are a bit slow, but you can find the videos here. |
New Mod: 2027 Wednesday, May 14, 2003, 05:33 | Jonas Wæver | Comments We have recieved an e-mail from Ded, announcing the existance of the six months old mod Deus Ex: 2027. He's planning to release it some time around the end of the year, and figured this would be a good time to introduce himself to the community, six months into the project. Ded promises that the site of the mod will be online very soon. You will find more information about the mod there. Until it's up, however, here's some nice info: Deus Ex: 2027 is a prequel to the original Deus Ex. The story take place in the year 2027. Features:
Current status of the mod: Maps - 15% Scripts - 70% Story - 100% Music - 20% Models - 40% Finally, he included some screenshots from one of the finished missions. There are currently two missions ready. |
GameSpy's E3 section online Monday, May 12, 2003, 16:49 | Despot | Comments GameSpy's E3 coverage has started--no news directly related to Deus Ex just yet, but there's already a bunch of nifty stuff to check out, such as a Half-Life 2 preview and a Homeworld 2 movie. We'll probably see Invisible War info once the show has started. "Big Updates at 1 PM, 7 PM, and Midnight Pacific Time Wednesday-Friday" according to the page, so check in around those times. |
Cassandra playtest preview Monday, May 12, 2003, 16:04 | Despot | Comments After some time of their habitual silence, The Cassandra Project has given DeusEx-Machina.com a preview build of the mod, which has, naturally, been previewed, consisting primarily of gameplay impressions and new screenshots. A quote: Once the game gets rolling past its markedly strange opening, the story and atmosphere really envelop the experience. From the point of entering CPHQ on, the game is an extreme trip through a very rare kind of humor. Between the scripted conversations to the character barks the situation presents an open area of superb office-like architecture with a lot of exploring to do, both with the NPCs that make up the CP and the various rooms throughout the complex. |
DeusEx.com gets a face-lift Monday, May 12, 2003, 15:57 | Despot | Comments Thanks to CoMpUdOc for pointing out the new design over at DeusEx.com, new design, and a shift in content from Deus Ex Machina to Deus Ex: Invisible War. There doesn't appear to be any new information or screenshots, but that is likely to change in the future. |
New Modification: Enigma Sunday, May 11, 2003, 04:19 | Jonas Wæver | Comments This looks interesting. Liquid Snake has posted about a new modification on the Ziliphore website. No real information has been released yet, except 6 screenshots, the name Enigma and the promise that the mod will be released very soon. Are we excited yet? If not, go give the screenshots some clicks. But click here first. |
GameSpyDaily screenies Friday, May 9, 2003, 13:32 | Despot | Comments More visual to heighten the sense of "must have this game!" over at GameSpyDaily, here. The game is starting to look very smooth and finished...they ought to release next week. ;) |
Un-official Truform patch for Deus Ex Tuesday, May 6, 2003, 17:50 | Despot | Comments Leonhard Gruenschloss has submitted a small (un-official) patch for Deus Ex, which will be of interest to Radeon owners, as it enables the Truform feature available on these video accelerators. His description of the patch: Well, as a preparation for Invisible War, I wanted to play the original Deus Ex again, but I thought that it would look a lot better with ATI's TruForm feature enabled. NitroGL had already done an implementation for Unreal Tournament and with lots of help from Chris Dohnal I was able to implement TruForm on a basis of his Enhanced OpenGL Renderer (UTGLR v2.0) that works with Deus Ex. Please be aware that this patch will ONLY work with recent Radeon cards, and is completely un-supported by Eidos and ION Storm. Use at your own risk. Leonhard says it's also a "potential general renderer update for Deus Ex," so other features may be available in future versions. |
More Deus Ex Greatness Tuesday, May 6, 2003, 19:52 | Kaigen | Comments In addition to Entertainment Weeky's greatest games list, Deus Ex has also made it on IGN's own Top 100 list as #40. The list isn't complete yet, but you can view what is available here. |
Sky texture pack Tuesday, May 6, 2003, 18:12 | Despot | Comments jimmycracker sent in this mail: I just found some pictures of some good looking sky patterns online, converted them into gif files, then pcx, then turned all of them into a 1.8 Meg texture pack. Hope this comes in handy: http://members.lycos.co.uk/guntherhermann/Textures/jimmycracker_sky.utx It's Tripod, so bare with the slow DL speed, please. Oh, and a few of the textures (3, I think) didn't turn out to be actual patterns, so try and ignore those. (sorry) In addition, he says that 3 of the 21 textures don't align properly, so don't automatically attribute alignment problems to luser error. |
Print mag coverage of Deus Ex Tuesday, May 6, 2003, 18:08 | Despot | Comments WoodenPlank sends word that the current issue of Entertainment Weekly named Deus Ex the #41 video game of all time...less important than Dance Dance Revolution, apparently. *tsk* He also says the newest Computer Gaming World has an interview with Warren and dev team about Invisble War. It is unknown what new information, if any, is available in the article. |
Gamespot Previews Deus Ex: Invisible War Tuesday, May 6, 2003, 16:54 | Kaigen | Comments Gamespot has a new preview of Deus Ex: Invisible War up. I can't say if there's any new info, but there are a few spiffy new screenshots worth taking a peek at. You can find the article here. |
Ad-free GameSpy Saturday, May 3, 2003, 10:35 | Despot | Comments A rather cool new feature-set has just been announced by GameSpy, basically allowing you to turn off the ads on all of GameSpy's planet sites, making for a much faster and less cluttered surf. In exchange for the lack of ads, you pay 2 bucks for a month of ad-free access to ALL the Planets. Ad-free access for about the same price as a can of soda or a candy bar. Subscription link is here. They have also introduced a more feature-full package that includes the aforementioned ad-free browsing, a subscription to FilePlanet's high-speed servers, GameSpy Arcade registration, and a print mag subscription to your choice of Computer Gaming World, Electronic Gaming Monthly, or Play Magazine. This for $10 a month. A rather useful expenditure, one I intend to make as soon as the Funds for an annual subscription are available to me... |
Gamers.com previews Invisible War Friday, May 2, 2003, 13:42 | Despot | Comments Thanks to The Shack for the link to this Deus Ex: Invisible War preview at Gamers.com. Nothin extraordinary new here, but there is this interesting quote: In Texas (Austin to be precise), the gods behind Deus Ex 2 are rallying against sandwich gameplay. "No, dude!" Harvey Smith yells. "That's sandwich gameplay!" For the uninitiated, sandwich gameplay drives a person to get up from his console or PC to go to the refrigerator for a sandwich, or to the bathroom to relieve the pressure on his bladder. It happens when a player character regenerates hit points and is short on health, or has to wait for a specific time or event. Sandwich gameplay is to be eschewed at all costs, and will not be a part of Ion Storm's Ex 2. Obviously this is a SCHEME by ION to keep us glued to our screens and deprive us of our sandwiches, making us weak and un-discriminating by the end of the game, un-able to differentiate between good gameplay and bad! They didn't have enough time to make a good ending and don't want anybody to know! It's a PLOT! O_o |
The Demise of OHND Thursday, May 1, 2003, 11:34 | Jonas Wæver | Comments The leader of the Old Habits Never Die team has sent us the following confirmation of recent news regarding OHND: OHND has folded. The editor corrupted 16 maps down to their original. Actors and Brushes duplicating and pentuplicating (2 to 5 times as many brushes superimposed) creating maps with insane statistics that became unplayable. Also, we had only 4 people working on the MOD out of an original 14. Team members have been invited to join with GHOST IN THE MACHINE, an excellent mod with many elements of a true cyberpunk masterpiece. We hope they will succeed where we have failed. John Brough We are of course sorry to lose another mod, but on the bright side, Liquiddark says he will be finishing the code they've put together and donating it to GITM before leaving the community for good. Nothing is so bad, it isn't good for something, it seems. |
Professor Spector Returns Thursday, May 1, 2003, 11:29 | Kaigen | Comments Gamespy has yet another edition of its Gaming University column up. Once again, Ion Storm's very own Warren Spector is the guest professor come to teach you a lesson. You can read it here. |
Doom mod changes directions Wednesday, April 30, 2003, 12:25 | Despot | Comments Daniel Garibay from the Doom conversion has sent word that their conversion attempts have been stymied by iD Software, so they intend to modify the storyline slightly--the player will will be "more of a Gordon Freeman type," but all the other planned Gameplay, such as storyline branching and a trip to Hell, will remain. Setting in the Doom universe is still implied as well. A new name has been chosen to reflect the change: "Deus Ex Abyssus," "Abyssus" being Latin for "hell, pit, or chasm." Thusly, "God from Hell." |
From the ashes of the Dead.... Monday, April 28, 2003, 22:59 | Despot | Comments This just in from #planetdeus, Vavrek has pointed out a post on GitMWorld regarding this post, which suggests a merger between the ex-OHND talent, and Ghost in the Machine. 'tis all hypothetical at this point, however. |
OHND Has Ceased to Exist Monday, April 28, 2003, 08:55 | Jonas Wæver | Comments According to Liquiddark, a coder of the mod Old Habits Never Die, which was based on the first System Shock, the mod has just been closed down by it's founder, John Brough. It is of course sad to see another mod disappear, and as Liquiddark said, it would be very nice to see a better mod scene for Invisible War. |
New DX:IW Screenies Thursday, April 24, 2003, 19:43 | Kaigen | Comments Gamers Hell has some new Deus Ex: Invisible War screenshots up. You can check them out here. |
More on DX/PS2 rumors... Wednesday, April 23, 2003, 20:41 | Kaigen | Comments IGN feeds the flames on the rumors of a new Deus Ex game on the Playstation 2 platform. Sounds interesting for PS2 owners so get with the clicky clicky to see exactly what has further developed. |
New DX on PS2? Saturday, April 19, 2003, 00:45 | Kaigen | Comments IGN is posting some speculation that Ion Storm may be hard at work on a game set in the Deus Ex universe for the PlayStation 2 based on a report from a British magazine. This title could just be a port of DX: Invisiible War, but that's unlikely considering the hardware limitations of the PS2. You can read exactly what they have to say here. |
Prologue Mod Released In German Friday, April 18, 2003, 04:20 | Jonas Wæver | Comments We have recieved word from the Deus Ex Zone that the Prologue mod for Deus Ex has been released. Unfortunately for the rest of us, the mod is only out in german so far. The team has, however, promised that an english translation of the mod will be out soon. An interview with a member of the team, TalRasha, a whole bunch of screenshots and a download link for the mod - all in german - may be found here. Just FYI, the mod plays in the year 1944, where you play as a guinea-pig, who has to escape from an asylum. |
New ION Storm Design Friday, April 18, 2003, 04:09 | Jonas Wæver | Comments Alright, I admit this is snatched straight off of the german Deus Ex Zone, but that's the risk of asking me to post some of their news: I might post all of it! Anyway, the ION Storm website has got a new design. And a very good one at that. In case you don't have it book-marked already (but how could you possibly not?), here's a link. |
Doom and Deus Ex Mod Tuesday, April 15, 2003, 04:44 | Jonas Wæver | Comments A new mod has surfaced, which will attempt to continue the Deus Ex storyline in the Doom setting. Sounds like a hell of a project, but if they have the dedication to make it work, kudos to them. They don't know whether it'll end up for Deus Ex or Deus Ex 2, but they're hoping DX2. How they'll start work without even knowing what engine they're modding for is a good question. |
Chronos Looking for Beta Testers Tuesday, April 15, 2003, 04:39 | Jonas Wæver | Comments According to the project leader, Aunt Betty, the Chronos (community project?) mod version 2.0 has been completed. However, beta testers are needed to make sure there are no bugs in the mod before it's released. If you'd like to participate in the bug-elimination process, sling a mail in Betty's general direction. As a beta tester, you will of course be credited in the final product. |
Mincetro's Lair Sunday, April 6, 2003, 12:56 | Jonas Wæver | Comments Mincetro has kindly informed us that he has created a new website, from which you can download his two DXMP maps, amongst other things. The website may be found here. However, I don't recommend visiting his flash section ;P |
Deus Ex Movie Progress Thursday, April 3, 2003, 22:21 | Kaigen | Comments According to Dark Horizons the script for the Deus Ex movie is very nearly finished. You can find that bit of news in the "Various Bits" section of today's (April 3rd) news. There are no other details. |
Greg Pruss Video Interview Wednesday, April 2, 2003, 08:29 | Jonas Wæver | Comments AtraIgnis noticed that Gamespot has posted a video interview with Greg Pruss (the script writer for the Deus Ex movie) about... well, the Deus Ex movie. Unfortunately, you need a Gamespot Complete account to view the interview, and that costs money. If someone with Gamespot Complete would be so kind as to post a little info about the interview in the comments of this post, that would be much appreciated. |
Never Mind Tuesday, April 1, 2003, 10:21 | Jonas Wæver | Comments Well, I just wrote a decent news post about a DX2 preview in XBN, just to find out that Despot posted about it a couple of days ago, apparently without replying to Yardbomb's mail so I'd know. The most logical solution to this problem would be to simply remove this post, but in stead, I shall utilize this space to point out that taen si siht. |
Sheldon Pacotti Article Monday, March 31, 2003, 22:12 | Kaigen | Comments Witchboy let me know Salon.com has an article written by Deus Ex writer Sheldon Pacotti concerning much of the Science Fiction behind the Deus Ex games. You can read it by clicking here. |

A Couple of TNM Updates Sunday, March 30, 2003, 10:45 | Jonas Wæver | Comments Several updates of the website of The Nameless Mod seem to have gone by more or less unnoticed. Two new teammembers have been acquired, and a couple of old ones have left, and the credits page has failed to be kept up-to-date. The team members are beeblequix who will be making a map or two for the mod, and Steve Foxon, a sound guy who is also working for Redsun 2020 and ZODIAC. The latter has already made some sounds for a weapon and a short logo animation, and he has just finished a new theme track for the mod, which you can read more about on the website. Have fun! |
New Screenage (Sorta) Saturday, March 29, 2003, 13:28 | Kaigen | Comments PC Games Online has some new screenshots of Deus Ex: Invisible War that can be found here. They're not actually all new. Some I've seen in mags and a few were in a recent C&VG article (see March 25th news) but there was at least one completely new to me. Thanks Da_Terminator. |
Paul Touzer Lecture Wednesday, March 26, 2003, 20:31 | Kaigen | Comments Thanks to former boss-man Gwog for letting us know that Paul Touzer, AI Programmer for Deus Ex: Invisible War and Thief 3 will be giving a lecture at the University of Utah. More information on the lecture can be found here. |
YARR! Preview! Tuesday, March 25, 2003, 14:09 | Kaigen | Comments I'll make it quick. Computer and Video Games. New Preview. Go look. Seriously though, there's a lot of new info here... like how cows can detach their head and really evolved from humans or how pounding your head on a desk is not a good thing. I don't actually know what I'm talking about. You have to register to read past the first page. |
More! More! MORE! Monday, March 24, 2003, 21:31 | Kaigen | Comments IGN is the latest site site to preview Deus Ex... again. You know the drill so you can just go ahead and get with the clicking. |

Bill Money Interview Saturday, March 22, 2003, 11:20 | Kaigen | Comments GDX-Box has an interview with up Bill Money concerning the X-Box version of Invisible War. I haven't read it so I can't say if there's any new information. So I guess you'll just have to read it to find out. |

Austin Chronicle/Spector Stuffage Thursday, March 20, 2003, 15:59 | Kaigen | Comments The Austin Chronicle has a long article on the "entertainment economy." The article includes some comments and thoughts from Warren Spector on the state of the gaming industry. You can check the article out here. Just scroll down to "We Got Game, But-" for the stuff on Spector. |
Chris Carollo is wise. Thursday, March 20, 2003, 09:08 | Kaigen | Comments Thanks to Shadowcode for letting us know that the latest edition of Gamespy's Gaming University features Chris Carollo, lead programmer of Deus Ex 2 and all-around dorky looking guy. Checking it out would be an appropriate course of action. |
Deus Ex Script Updated Saturday, March 15, 2003, 06:15 | Jonas Wæver | Comments Well, I didn't even know it was out there, but apparently, a guy called Nightcom is writing down every line of conversation from Deus Ex and putting it into a huge text file located here. The file was updated last Tuesday with some stuff from the New York map before you go back to UNATCO HQ. Also, it would seem a german translation of the script is under construction. |
Spector SMASH!!! Friday, March 14, 2003, 12:37 | Kaigen | Comments The guys at GDAC (Games Design Art Culture) posted their impressions of speeches held at the GDC. Ion Storm's very own Warren Spector took it upon himself to reply. Check it out here. Thanks VE. |
IW X-Box Preview Friday, March 14, 2003, 11:52 | Kaigen | Comments Phantom sends word that the April '03 issue of X-Box Magazine has a four page report on Deus Ex: Invisible War. No word on any really new info, but it's probably a good read for console wh0-I mean, uh... X-Box owners. |

Check it out here. You'll need Microsoft's Power Point viewer, which is linked to on the same page. |
Yet another preview... Wednesday, March 12, 2003, 20:59 | Kaigen | Comments Additionally, VE is reporting here about a theory of what ending they are using for Invisible War, and some information in the above preview supposedly supports this hypothesis. Are you happy now, randomatic? |
DX Movie Interview Tuesday, March 11, 2003, 21:11 | Kaigen | Comments Filmforce.IGN has an interview with Greg Pruss, screenwriter of the planned film adaptation of our beloved Deus Ex. At least the man acknowledges the fact that the other game-based movies have sucked, so maybe there's a small degree of hope. |
More Impressions Sunday, March 9, 2003, 17:04 | Kaigen | Comments Homelan Fed is the next in what is proving to be a series of publications offering impressions of the Deus Ex sequel. I wouldn't be surprised if we had a couple more later as well. |

It offers some new information on the story and what not. You get the idea. Check it out. |
Another Warren Spector Q&A Sunday, March 2, 2003, 04:32 | Jonas Wæver | Comments Spector has answered his second round of questions about the game development industry for the Gaming University, and his answers are long. Not much to add really, except that you ought to read this regardless of whether or not you're dreaming of breaking into the industry. It's very interesting stuff. |
Harvey Smith at the Gaming University Friday, February 21, 2003, 10:40 | Jonas Wæver | Comments Harvey Smith has answered some questions about how to get into the game development business for GameSpy's Gaming University articles. LetGo Texture Pack Friday, February 21, 2003, 10:35 | Jonas Wæver | Comments BerneyBoy has created a texture pack called LetGo, for use with several first person games, resembling, as he put it, Lego® or Megablock® bricks style. The textures are compatible with a number of different shooters, and Deus Ex is one of them. The files can be downloaded from BerneyBoy's website, as can two maps using them, although these maps are not available for Deus Ex. |
New Screenshots! Wednesday, February 19, 2003, 11:39 | Jonas Wæver | Comments 10 new screenshots have been released on the official DX2 website, 5 of which I don't remember seeing before. Amongst these is a screenshot of a spider bot, which almost made me wet myself. Whether it was from anticipation, I'll leave for you to guess. There is also a very nice picture of a flamethrower firing. |
ign.com DX2 Interview Wednesday, February 19, 2003, 11:30 | Jonas Wæver | Comments A new interview has been conducted with Harvey Smith and Chris Carollo by ign.com. I'd say this is undoubtedly the most hilarious one yet. Here's the standard quote: Harvey Smith: I ask if we really need things like inventory and Warren goes "Aaagh!! We're an RPG! We have to have an inventory!" Well, maybe we don't; let's think about it. In the end we did need an inventory because we want you to be able to hoard stuff and carry it around and use it strategically, so we need some concept of an inventory. Chris Carollo: Yeah, but if someone asks "Why do you have an inventory?" the answer isn't "Because we're an RPG." IGNPC: It's "Because Warren said so." |
Ghost in the Machine spotlight Tuesday, February 18, 2003, 14:51 | Despot | Comments randomatic has let us know of a preview of his Mod over on DXEditing.com...several excellent screenshots are included as well. Here's a bit o' quotage: Ghost In The Machine will not follow the traditional level to level gameplay of most DX mods, the game will take place in The Free State of Los Angeles, the player will be free to explore the entire city, which will serve as a hub for other indoor levels. You will take on the guise of Thelonious, a mercenary for hire, and will be able to take jobs from a variety of different factions around the city, there will be no fixed path, so the player has complete freedom as to what he wishes to do. We are told that the finished product will offer approximately 20-40 hours of gameplay, possibly more, if you choose to explore all the side paths. |
Video interview with Warren and Harvey Monday, February 17, 2003, 13:06 | Winquman | Comments Yet another great thing for all you Deus Ex fans! There is a video interview with Warren Spector and Harvey Smith at DeusExZone.info - more exactly it can be found here. Harvey and Warren are talking about (surprise, surprise) Deus Ex: Invisible War. It's originally from the German GamePro magazine and is a 26.4mb download. Watcha waiting for? |
Yet More Previews Sunday, February 16, 2003, 11:07 | Jonas Wæver | Comments Another preview has surfaced, this one from Gamespy. I couldn't see the Gamespot screenshots, but I've been told that the PC screenies on Gamespy are the same, but that the X-Box screenies are new. In any event, the preview is very interesting, and does actually contain some new information... I think. Go there. |
More previews Saturday, February 15, 2003, 10:56 | Despot | Comments Joining the recent small-scale flood of information regarding the Deus Ex sequel, we have two more previews of the game: one on Gamespot.com, and one on here on XBox.IGN.com. Very much interesting information...mmmm...this game looks better every day! |
Mmm, screenage...release date? Friday, February 14, 2003, 19:55 | Despot | Comments Props goes to Kaigen for linking me to some new Deus Ex 2 screenage on Gamespot.com. Stop by and droooolllll... There's also an interesting thing at the top of the page: a release date of 6/14/2003. Where they got it from remains a Mystery... |
IGN DX2 preview Thursday, February 13, 2003, 17:57 | Despot | Comments Jeff Smith sends word of a lengthly IGN preview of Deus Ex 2. Lots of nifty tidbits about the game, although there is some spoiler-ish material. Here's a snippet: From a technical standpoint, the lighting model is superb. It would be enough that it's the first game that exclusively uses dynamic, real-time lights. But the team has gone even farther to make light an integral part of gameplay. Light sources generate illumination in real time according to their position. (We noticed that the player character doesn't cast a shadow at all. The team seems to be hiding something about this feature but they did mention that a player shadow would be incompatible with the AI. Otherwise the team would have to design AI to notice shadows.) |
Gamespy DX2 interviews Round 2 Thursday, February 13, 2003, 00:36 | Despot | Comments Another interview is up on GameSpy.com, this time with Harvey Smith (Project Lead) and Ricardo Bare (Lead Designer). They talk about their roles in the project, what they learned from Deus Ex 1, and, of course, Deus Ex: Invisible War. Here's a quote: Harvey Smith: So non-linearity ... it's on two tracks for us, linearity or not. In the simulation it was very granular ... but in that situation I described earlier where a Q/A guy suddenly figures out he can throw our little noise-maker bomb/device in the middle of a bunch of gas barrels and shoot 'em. Then a guard comes around to investigate it and dies [from the gas]. That's a completely emergent narrative. If you described it in story terms, the guy throws the noise-maker over, he waits in the shadows, he shoots the barrel, the guard comes to investigate, the gas kills him. It's no different than a scene out of a movie or a book, except that it happened in real-time. It is the plot of any action movie or any story I've just described, but it was driven completely by the user, it was completely non-linear. On the other hand, if you're just talking about the embedded text, the narrative, like ... we do branching, and that's about as good as it's gonna get until the technology gets really advanced. |
Gamespy interviews Spector on DX2 Tuesday, February 11, 2003, 10:52 | Despot | Comments New interview with Spector on Gamespy in which WS talks about his role in Deus Ex: Invisible War and why seven-year-olds hate System Shock. Here's a quotsie: GameSpy: At the end of the day, what do you want players to take away from Deus Ex: Invisible War? Spector: I hope players take away from it that we didn't sell out, just doing another game with a number after the name for profit, because we didn't. I hope they take away that "Hey, these guys really paid attention to what happened in the first game, what we said about the first game, what they learned from the first game, and they refined the gameplay to a point that I can't even imagine them making it any better." |

Redsun 2020 Progress Update Friday, January 10, 2003, 11:27 | Jonas Wæver | Comments The Redsun2020 website has been updated with some news about the progress of the mod. A section I find especially interesting is this: You know, this is a huge mod and has already taken over 2 years and we are now in our 3rd year but it is great to see *ALL* our mod members still here with me. I think this is very special and unusual. Most mods are not that lucky to have members stay and finish a project. All I can say, being a part of the TNM team and all, is: DAMN RIGHT! :D |

Eminem in DX Movie? Hardly. Wednesday, January 8, 2003, 06:25 | Jonas Wæver | Comments Even though this is complete speculation, I might as well post about it, since news is sparce these days, and some of you might be interested. Apparently some guy saw a small article on the back side of a magazine, saying something about Eminem being in negotiations about a main role in a movie concerning "a twin brother and a secret agent". He then posted about it on a gaming forum, speculating that the movie in question was Deus Ex. You may read the thread here. |
